GREG GOODMANI believe that all children can learn, and our schools can be a model of excellence in education. I want to support our teachers and parents as they work together to provide the best educational practices for our community. Paso Robles has a long tradition of providing high quality educational programs for its students, and I want to contribute to the district’s continuing success. |
Top Thing he Wants to Accomplish
- We must follow the State and County recommendations for a safe re-opening of the schools in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. All students and staff need to know that their health and safety is the number one priority related to school reopening.
- Following health, learning is the number one goal of our teachers and administrators. Under the requirements of the Learning Continuity Plan and based upon the recent school closures (distance learning), it is incumbent upon our district to provide a solid assessment of our students’ growth and subsequent learning needs. To accomplish this task I propose that teachers use authentic and classroom assessments to demonstrate the successes and further needs related to the Covid closures.
- The third priority of my platform is to support our teachers’ professionalism. Compensation and benefits are essential tools for attracting and retaining the best teachers. Our teachers are the foundation of student learning, and teacher leadership is paramount for student success. I will support our teachers 100%!
- The pride of Paso Robles schools is reflected not only in the classroom, but in the totality of extra-curricular activities that engage and reward our students through opportunities to showcase their talents outside of the classroom. I will support the maintenance and growth of all experiential learning opportunities: sports, robotics, theatre, etc. in the development of our students as future citizens.
- Fiduciary responsibility is key to successful school operations. We must assure the public that funds are being used in the most efficient manner to accomplish learning goals and to maintain positive traction for programs that enhance learning. We must use all funding possibilities to build a strong foundation for student success.
What Experiences, Past jobs, or Education makes him qualified for School Board?
My background includes over forty years of teaching, counseling, and school psychology work. I earned my Doctorate of Education at UC Davis in 2000, and I have worked as a Professor of Education. My most recent work in education is being a school psychologist at San Luis Obispo H. S.. I currently work there two days a week. Before this, I was a Full Professor of Education at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. In that role I authored and edited over 50 books on educational psychology. In my nearly 45 year history of working in both public and private schools, I have come to deeply appreciate the importance of high quality teachers in the classroom.
Why did he decide to run?I decided to run for office here because I want there to be the best of educational experience for our youth in Paso Robles. To make this a reality, I want to help to recruit and retain the best teachers possible to populate our teacher ranks. This means compensating our teachers appropriately, and recognizing them for their part in the learning process: the quintessential one!

How will he respond to COVID-19 as a member of the School Board? The Covid issue is complex. I will not be the one to rush a return to school if it means risking the health of any of our school’s constituency. I will follow the recommendations of the state and county senior health officials responsible for making sentient decisions and providing sensible solutions to return us back to school.
